🏛️ Municipal vs. State Licensing

Not every job needs a state license. Small projects under $10,000 (drywall repair, painting, minor carpentry) fall below the MSBOC threshold. But that doesn't mean the contractor can operate without any license.

Municipal privilege license: Any contractor working in Gulfport, Biloxi, Ocean Springs, or any city on the Coast is required to hold a local business or privilege license — even for small jobs under $10,000. Always ask: "Do you have a current business license with this city?"

Quick rule of thumb: Jobs under $10K = municipal license only. Jobs over $10K (or any electrical/plumbing/HVAC work) = MSBOC state license required. Both can be checked.
